Gossip Girl: Gone Maybe Gone (Season Premiere) Recap/Review

This is it, Gossip Girl is finally coming to end. But wipe your tears Upper East Siders, we have 10 episodes until we say farewell, forever. So let's start right now with the season premiere 'Gone Maybe Gone'. Like I said in my previous post, any good premiere gets the viewers excited for what's to come, I was excited from the very first second of Gossip Girl. The premiere starts 4 months ago, Chuck and Blair are getting down and dirty in Monte Carlo, while Dan and Georgina start to write Dan's tell-all book about the Upper East Side under the Tuscan sun, back in New York, Nate continues the hunt for Gossip Girl and Serena overdoses on the train. But lets jump forward to present day, Lily discovers that Serena is missing after a Summer of not hearing a word from her. Is Lily for real? She goes a whole Summer without talking to or seeing her daughter and then upon arriving home she discovers that Serena is missing. Mother of the Year Award goes to Lily Rhodes, van der Woodsen, Bass, Humphrey, Bass Again. While all this is going down in Lily's apartment I see that Michelle Trachtenberg's credit is now 'and Michelle Trachtenberg as Georgina Sparks' because you should know who Georgina is.

Anyway, Lily starts calling Nate to ask about Serena's where-a-bouts. He's as confused as anyone, but when is he not confused? A new girl named Sage is also introduced, I feel like in episodes to come she'll be the new Jenny Humphrey (something to look forward to). Blair then gets the memo that Serena is missing and some French guy calls for a private jet, ASAP. Frankly I've had enough of the French guys on Gossip Girl, Louis was too much to handle. Blair calls Dan to tell him about Serena but Georgina picks up and it's a Blair vs. Georgina showdown. I love these two, they will forever be my favorite Gossip Girl characters. Meanwhile, Chuck is in Dubai with Bart Bass' translator when he gets the call about Serena. Don't ask me what Chuck was doing with the translator, I tend to block out anything that has to do with Bart Bass because he's annoying and I hate him.

A missing Serena brings the gang back to the city so they can try and figure out where the heck she is. Lily searches for Serena in Brooklyn, Rufus' loft to be more exact. However, she finds something much more shocking. Apparently Rufus has taken in Ivy to live with him. I don't get why Rufus feels so sorry for Ivy or what Ivy's motives are. They're both mysteries to me. Another mystery that I'm sure will run through-out the season is the identity of Gossip Girl. But Nate trades the video of Gossip Girl for the location of Serena. So what does this mean? Do we have to start at the beginning again? Speaking of starting again, back in Brooklyn, Rufus is planning to restart his career and buy a gallery. Finally, Rufus has a job, for so long he has had nothing to do and now in the last season they give him a job. Ivy then calls Lola to tell her that their plan is working. I loved this part because Ivy congratulates Lola on her new acting gig in a NBC series. If you didn't know, then Ella Rae Peck who plays Lola actually got a job working on an upcoming NBC series named 'Infamous' so I enjoyed that nod to her.

Georgina and Dan while looking for Serena take a break at a gas stop where Georgina spots Chuck's limo, she knows that it's Chuck's limo because she memorized the license plate (this girl is crazy), so she and Dan follow them as she believes that they know where Serena is. I loved how Georgina drove on without Dan, her driving skills made me think of Cruella de Vil in the final scene of 101 Dalmatians. Regardless of how insane Georgina is, she was actually right. The gang ended up at a very modern house where they found Serena who was saying that her name was 'Sabrina', like the Sabrina in Dan's 'Inside' novel. Also, it seems like some kind of event is happening.

Firstly, Georgina believes that Serena is part of some cult but then the gang start to think that maybe this is a wedding and Serena is the bride. However, back in New York, Lily and Rufus have a sit down. I don't know why Lily invited him over and what he's actually doing there but he's not leaving until he finishes his tea. Or until Ivy busts in and tells him that they got the gallery. Ivy totally burns Lily in this scene when she tells Lily that she's starting to get frown lines. Georgina also has so many funny lines in this episode, one of my favorites was when she said "Serena's taken too many happy pills and she thinks she's Sabrina from Dan's book." Bart Bass then pays that translator lady to keep some big secret. What? Can we have Bart die again, I've had enough already. At the wedding, we find out that Serena isn't actually getting married but this is before Blair and Georgina try to stop the wedding and get Serena locked up in the Pedowitz Institute which used to be called the Ostroff Center. Does this mean that The CW is a crazy hospital? I knew Serena wasn't getting married, how could she have met someone so fast and then get married. Although, this is Serena we're talking about.

After the break, Serena gets real angry at everyone for not checking up on her over Summer. I love how she says to Nate and Chuck that they must have been "too busy doing whatever you do," what do those two even do? Dan then gets upset with Blair about picking Chuck, his points are very true, he wanted Blair now and she has to wait for Chuck so why did she pick Chuck? In Brooklyn, Ivy was getting some Rufus loving. I think this storyline is so gross, she's way too young for him. Ewww. Jumping back to Serena and Blair, Serena tells Blair that she's "stuck" with her. That was so mean of Serena to say, I was liking what I was seeing with Serena so far because she was starting to act like season 1 Serena again, but that was too far.

In the closing moments, Blair and Chuck are close to being together again. Who cares? Another couple blooming is Sage and Nate as go out for a drink. While Serena moves back to New York with her new boyfriend, Steven. Then the translator tells Chuck about Bart paying her off. In the end, Dan walks in on a naked Ivy and Rufus. AHHHH! MA EYES! When looking back on it, this episode wasn't as good as first watching it but I enjoyed it at the time and it set up some good storylines for the season.

Overall episode score:-
'Gone Maybe Gone' = B-

9 more episodes to go...
